I wrote a letter to my mother when I was 10 and told her that I wanted to attend The Juilliard Music School and become a concert violinist. It seemed like wishful thinking on my part but I eventually realized this childhood dream of mine only because I had the support of two exceptionally gifted educators: Anne Crowden, my violin coach, and Sara VanDette, my mother. They were a constant source of inspiration and made me realize that no dream is out of reach if I put my mind to it.
I have travelled throughout the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. After years on stage and being on the road, I knew it was time to give back to young musicians by sharing my passion and experiences.
I believe that music education is essential to the development of a global citizen. Music positively impacts interpersonal relationships and helps a child understand the importance of discipline in critical areas such as concentration, time management, work ethics and self-improvement. Musical achievement and public performances also contributes substantially to healthy levels of self-esteem. This is why music as an artistic expression and a basic creative impulse should be nurtured from the earliest pre-school years.
My experience includes teaching instrumental and classroom music to students of all ages in the US, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. I passionately impart my musical knowledge with an upbeat and good-humored approach. In all my classes, mutual respect is instilled and I strive to create an environment where students fall in love with the beauty of music.
