Head of Educational Technology

The Head of Technology strategically plans, implements and evaluates the use of new and varied technologies from preK to Grade 12 at GEMS World Academy (Singapore).  This role reports directly to the Head of School but is responsible for supporting the Principals of each division of the school so that a high quality curriculum related to technological skills is implemented effectively.

The Head of Educational Technology also works in conjunction with the Head of Finance and Operations to streamline purchase orders and the delivery of resources which are to be catalogued for use by the school community.   

A key goal for the Head of Educational Technology is to ensure that the Technology Centre is a vibrant hub of learning, which is evidenced by a high level of activity and engagement from all school community members. The role holder must be able to define the strategic direction for the use of technology ensuring the needs of all key stakeholders in the school community are assimilated and there is alignment to the schoolwide strategic plan.
The Head of Educational Technology is responsible for four key areas:
Curriculum mapping and technology integration
ICT implementation
Innovative projects
Professional development.

The role also manages the provision of instruction, training, and resources in order to facilitate best practice teaching and learning through the use of educational technology tools, systems and processes.

Reports to;

  • Head of School

  • Technology Integration Facilitators (TIFs) and ICT team

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
The Head of Educational Technology will be responsible for:

Curriculum mapping and technology integration

  • develop and implement and continuously review the schoolwide curriculum map (including scope and sequence) for the use of technologies, and the development of the skills to use those technologies.
  • develop strategic planning that enhances teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational technologies into the curriculum.
  • support the design and implementation of educational opportunities such as lunchtime activities, after school activities and school wide programmes to develop key competencies in entrepreneurialism and technology.
  • lead the organisation, maintenance and management of the Technology Centre.
  • maintain awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new potentials in educational technology that may be trialled and adopted within the school.

ICT implementation

  • oversee the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) team to ensure adequate technology infrastructure (hardware and software) is in place to meet the educational needs of the school community and supports the goals of technology-enhanced curriculum.
  • oversee the work of the ICT team in delivering an efficient integration of the student information and learning management systems so that the Educational Leadership team are able to implement the school’s strategic plan as well as initiatives for continuous school improvement.  This includes designing, developing, analyzing and enhancing school education systems and applications (ManageBac, OpenApply, LaunchPad, iSAMS, SeeSaw etc.)

Innovative projects

  • develop and manage key technology and entrepreneurial partnerships (e.g. CMU Create Lab AICE Accelerator/ Harvard Project Zero)
  • develop and manage technology and entrepreneurial programmes and event such as EdTech Accelerators, Innovation competitions, the Technopreneur Challenge and bootcamps.

Professional Development

  • design and implement professional development opportunities which support staff, students and parents in developing best practice application of entrepreneurialism and educational technology.
  • plan and conduct parent engagement and training sessions.
  • provide pedagogical and technical coaching that supports staff in the design, development, and implementation of instructional content, that enriches teaching and learning through the use of technology.
  • develop and maintain networks with external organisations and educational technology specialists, to leverage knowledge and resources that develop the key competencies of school stakeholders.

Additional responsibilities will be to:

  • participate in relevant leadership meetings and policy and planning committees to support and inform key stakeholders.
  • work and liaise with GESM PTC to incorporate community involvement with programmes.  
  • support the ICT team to maintain a positive atmosphere and work environment and foster team spirit and an ethos of customer service.   
  • liaise with vendors as required.
  • maintain complete and accurate records to develop meaningful reports.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrates the ability to think strategically and creatively and is able to communicate ideas clearly.

  • Knowledge of the IB programmes (PYP, MYP, DP and CP) and IGCSE.
  • Minimum of five years experience working in the educational technologies landscape or in a related field.   
  • A degree plus teaching qualification (or equivalent).
  • Higher degree or recognised professional qualification.
  • Evidence of continued relevant professional development.
  • Experience in an international school environment.
  • Proven leadership experience in a relevant field.
  • Proven track record of successful staff and project management.
  • Possess experience of integrating a range of disparate systems.
  • Experience of extracting effective use beyond standard expectations from a school Management Information System (MIS).

FACILITIES MANAGER

Job Scope:

  • To provide general support to ensure emergency and general repair to facility and equipment maintenance on school property.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of the facilities as per GEMS standards and constant inspections to ensure proper maintenance and upkeep. Complete regular spot check of the facilities and encourage staff to report snags, wear and tear in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the upkeep of the school facilities are incorporated into the yearly budget and the campus reflects the high standards of GEMS Singapore at all times
  • Coordinate all approvals from required government agencies for all facility and operationally required compliance areas of the school i.e LTA, CPE, Health Board, SLA, SP, NEA etc
  • Establishes and maintains highly effective professional relationships with all vendors and ensures that standards for establishment of all vendor contracts are adhered to in a professional and transparent manner.
  • Ensures that the leadership of GEMS Singapore are included in the decision making process for all operations and commercial related vendor contracts.
  • Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.
  • Ensure that required reports are completed and submitted.
  • Provide feedback, coaching, and training to subordinate employees to ensure acceptable service levels.

  • Meet with client representatives as required regarding service issues, conduct core problem identification and resolution, and ensure that client satisfaction is maintained.

  • Health and Safety-
  • Responsible for the management of Health and safety legislation, complying with school requirements, GEMS Corporate’s expectations and within the parameters of the Singapore government legislation.
  • Ensures the Building Management system is fully functioning at all times and any updates to the system are completed in a timely manner.
  • Works with the Leadership Team to ensure fully developed evacuation plans are in place in the event of disaster, including the provision of guidelines and disaster plans for in the event of an emergency.
  • Daily facility review is conducted to ensure the safe and highly effective operations of the school facility.
  • Conduct additional spot checks throughout the building for issues with health and safety.
  • Coordinate meetings with the appropriate local emergency services to maintain relations and ensure government compliance throughout the year.

PARENT RELATIONS EXECUTIVE

GEMS World Academy (Singapore) is looking for a dynamic Parent Relations Executive to develop a strong and active parent community as the central pillar of the school’s culture.

REPORTS TO: Head of Marketing Communications and Admissions

Job Purpose:

  • Provide quality customer service to new and existing parents.
  • Assist the Registrar office with parent meetings and enrolment processing during the busy period of May to July.
  • Promote and market the school to relevant stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Provide quality customer service to the children and families enrolled.
  • Develop and maintain internal community communication channels and ensure the school parent population is fully aware of the school’s activities and programs, in collaboration with EY/PY Secretary and SY Secretary.
  • Maintain open lines of communications with existing parents and ensure that their concerns, complaints and feedback are handled effectively, efficiently and in a timely manner. Liaise with other school personnel or departments as required.
  • Coordinate parent/community events in order to engage parents in school activities and celebrations.
