Patrick Holt is the Head of Educational Technology and a Design Teacher. He joined GEMS World Academy (Singapore) in August 2017.
Patrick grew on the rainy west coast of Canada where he began his career in education as a volunteer High School Counselor for a local outdoor school’s program for Grade 6 students. Seven or so years of volunteering under the mentorship of the outdoor school teaching staff shaped his core values as an educator. He believes that teachers are leaders, and the best leaders are role models, and they lead through influence and example rather than their authority. He developed a sense that learning experiences were most effective when they were as authentic as possible, involved action, and were experiential. After twenty-five years of working with children and youth, fifteen overseas, these values have remained at the core of his practice as have led to a variety of positions as a leader and teacher of children and youth from the west coast and Rocky Mountains of Canada, to the isle of Taiwan, the dusty deserts of Doha, Qatar, and finally to his current home in Singapore.
Along the way Patrick has earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria, a Bachelor of Education from Simon Fraser University, and a Masters of Education from the University of Prince Edward Island, and a Certificate of Information Literacy and educational Technology (CoETaIL).
Patrick’s wife Sara is also a teacher at GEMS, and their twin children are GEMS students in the Secondary Years. When not working you may catch Patrick playing his guitar, or planning the next adventure with his family.
